Sorry I haven't updated my blog for ........ so long! ;p I had been ....... busy (??) HEHE

Hello and Good Morning, everyone.

I have new additions to the cat family. Sisters! Well, I know how much most people hate to READ blogs. LOL! Everyone prefers pictures to texts. So here they are.

Rara Darling is the Silver-Shaded or Blue-Smoke petite girl with the cute short tail. And the solid black sure is a complainer, her me is Felicia Swift. LOL!

Please note that the girls are the same age as ORION, except ORION is older by a few weeks.

so I thought he won't mind that the sisters borrowed his.

Yup, that's a long queue getting off the high-way.

I named the silver-shaded or blue-smoke "Rara" after Lady Gaga's song "Bad Romance". HEHE and "Darling" simply because she is a DARLING, and a sweetheart, too. Not to mention, a shadow and always lying down next to my feet, or arm, or face. Errr, yeah. And she even sleeps next to my pillow.

And the solid black is Felicia Swift. She is rather sneaky, and enjoys her own company, prefers to be left alone --- especially by Orion. LOL!

She doesn't mind rolling around with Rara, but with Orion....? She hisses every time Orion jumps on her to play. Well, I can't blame her since Orion IS a giant baby. Yeah, she's not that friendly, but she sure enjoys company from her human aka ME. LOL!

Sadly I have to put Felicia in the cage in my room. She's being quarantined, and she hates it. Vet said she has fleas, but it's not that serious, though.

The good thing is, the cage is next to the cat-tree, and she can scratch and bite on the loose nylon rope. Rara and Orion would come up to her whenever they hear that faint scratching sound coming from the cat-tree.

At least she's not abandoned at all by her playmates. *sigh* I cuddle her most of the time, but it is risky for the other cats since I have to handle them too.

When I looked at Scotch & Muffin's cage, I saw these pink wriggling things.
Oh well, Congratulations, Ginger.

And don't worry, I think she's a better mom now. Whenever I went to check up on Muffin's pups and Scotch's endless needs of food, I peeked a glance over Ginger's cage and she's being the attentive, loving mother. Always tending to her pups. Way to go, MAMA!

Hola!

I just want to inform everyone that, it turns out that Ginger IS NOT such a good mother after all. I checked on her cage the next day and found that the only pup left DIED, too. So I no longer have babies from Ginger.

I checked up on Muffins' pups last night, and saw that she actually has SEVEN pups! Congratulations to Muffin! And thank GOD that they are all STILL BREATHING.

I can see the marks on their skin already. Seems to me that they will all be banded just like the mama & papa. I'm hoping for a solid white. HEHE~

Okay, direct to the point.

I separated her from Ginger and Scotch on Thursday (4th March 2010), assuming she was pregnant. Surprisingly and a bit unexpected, Ginger gave birth to TWO pups the next morning (5th March 2010). So I had to separate ALL three of them in their individual cages.

The bottom line is, today I only found ONE baby in the cage. I tried to look for the other one, but it was no use. Maybe Ginger isn't such a good mother. She tends to always leave her babies, and not protecting them, or breast-feeding them. I feel so kesian for the baby.

So anyway, here's Muffin's story.

I thought she was just a FAT, FOOD-HOGGING HAMSTER, which is actually cute. I did some of my homework with GOOGLING, and I found out that a female hamster doesn't like to be touched, and that she would bite you, bla bla bla. But Muffin didn't, so I assumed yeah, she's just a FATTY HAMSTER.

Well, anyway back to Muffin's story..........

She gave birth to SIX pups yesterday (7th March 2010). She seems like a good mother; always around her babies, always protecting them.

I saw an advertisement on BruDirect, someone requesting for a pet. I saw her advertisement a few weeks ago, but decided to put her on KIV. To be honest, I've been wanting to sell Brownie since it didn't work out between her and Shaggy. They just didn't "match".

The truth is, we bought Brownie from someone (who lives in KB). He sold her to us for $200. Yes, SERIOUSLY. Well, to be honest --- again --- the guy told us that Brownie was a mixed-persian, and I was desperately looking for Shaggy's mate. But when he sent her to us (we met up somewhere), I was kinda disappointed. But I took her anyway, considering that the guy drove all the way from KB in the heavy rain. And she lived with us ever since.

We've tried to mate her with Shaggy, but yeah, like I said earlier: they just didn't MATCH. Maybe Brownie was too tall for him or something.

So, that Saturday night (27th February 2010), I emailed the girl and she said she'll be happy to take care of her for me. And so we agreed to meet up the next day. And now Brownie has new owner since 28th February 2010.

And now that I know that you (Bebyrin), found my blog, I would like to say THANKS! Please take good care of her. I, on the other hand will try to find another she-cat for Shaggy.

Tonight when I was cleaning Shaggy's cage, he rushed out of the cage and stood in front of Brownie's empty one. He didn't meow, he just looked at it.

But I'm sure Brownie will get all the attention she needs.

So, goodbye Brownie =)

First of all, update on Orion.

He happily turned 3-months old a couple of days ago. And he has developed a habit of treating me as his bed. I woke up one morning and he was sleeping on my chest. Very sweet, but scary. LOL!

Did I ever mention that I've always wanted a silver cat? Well, wish granted. Orion turned out to be a Silver Classic with White. Soooo yeah, he's silver. He's still a dear. Very intelligent and an awesome companion.

Next, update on Shaggy.

I brought him to AniCare last week for his shot, and he's all better. The vet said he's recovering fast, although he still needs to be treated with the tablets. But he's okay. He's bigger and fatter now. Just like he's old-self. Fat, lazy cat. We're just waiting for his fur to grow longer.

But he's great now. Awesome. Got his big appetite back.

Last but not least, updates on our hamsters.

Scotch: Well, he's bigger now. Still finding a way to irritate me in the middle of the night by chewing on the cage bars. Can you really sleep with all that racket? So I had to do what I do best: put on the iPod.

Muffin: She's rather grumpy nowadays. It really pisses her off whenever Ginger is in the same cage with her. She's always chasing Ginger around, biting her (or so it seems). Could she be pregnant? I hope not. I'm not ready. But she's always building nests around the cage. Last time she built three nests.

Ginger: Well, Ginger on the other hand is quite the QUIET one. Always having her own private space at a corner. Sleeping all the time. Hiding all her food beneath the wooden sand.

Those are my Syrian Hamsters. My fiance's Dwarf Hamsters are doing fine. All four of them; Theodore, Pearl, Alvin and Eva.

. . . but here's a surprise!

PEARL just gave birth to a few baby hamsters! We just found out today. One died because my fiance didn't get a chance to separate them all, and Alvin had bitten the baby. We don't know how many babies had Pearl delivered. We didn't dare intrude.

I just hope Pearl is old enough to take care of her babies. Fingers crossed.

Well, guess who's home?

Here are hints:

It's February. And it's something furry with white and brownish and grayish. Big, long ears. Long tail. Golden eyes. Pink nose. Very hyperactive. Very naughty.

HAHA. Yup!

ORION!

I took him home on Friday night (12th February 2010). I went for a visit the night before (barutah terlawat!), and I told the amahs that I will be taking Orion home on Sunday. But can I wait? ;p

The first night he came home, he did the usual thing. Walk around my room, exploring and trying to find a spot. And soon, yes, he loves settling in front of my fan (my room only has air-cond, so yeah I have a fan). And he's not as . . . wild as I thought.

That first night, he curled up next to my pillow, then he would move to lie down on my tummy, or at the foot of the bed. He's actually a good companion.

And last night when I was on my laptop with a pillow on my lap. He reluctantly squeezed himself from under my arm to lie down on the pillow. Then he began grooming himself. He even peered into the screen, being the busybody that he is.

He reminds me of Casper a lot. And even though Casper was JUST a normal DSH Siamese cat, he was still my favorite.

And Orion resembles his attitude a lot. So, thank you, Orion. Mummy loves you, too.

Oh by the way, Orion is sprawled out on my feet as we speak, napping. Since he got here, I've gushed this one word one too many to describe him: SIUK.

Shaggy's a lot better now!

He had his bath last night. All fresh and healthy! All he needs now is his vaccine shot and he'll be his old-self again. Although I've noticed that the colour of his fur is paler than it used to be. But I hope he'll get his shade back soon.

His abdomen is showing progress. Fur is starting to grow.
He slept in my room last night. And it'll only be a matter of time until he claims his space back.

Our last visit

Sorry for the HIATUS. Now I'm back. It's been a while. Almost a month without any updates. I've been busy with work. And I've been sick. My flu's back now. It's really irritating. But anyway, here are photos from our last visit.

On 17th January 2010. Orion turned 2-months. He'll be home next week. 17th February to be exact. Who's excited! =)))

Yup, we had to hold him to take a picture. He can't stay still for a second. And since I don't have my SLR anymore, all the photos were shaky. So I guess I'll be investing an SLR again soon. HEHE

New Addition & Scotch's nest?

Hi, good morning everybodehhh~

I know I should be updating this blog on Shaggy and Orion. But since hamsters are also my pets, so this blog is dedicated to all of my pets fair and square.

I have a new addition to my hamster cage! Bought her last night from a very nice couple in Sungai Besar, Kota Batu. I now have THREE hamsters; one male, and two females.

Meet GINGER!

I'll try to get a close up of her. She's still what we call "sakai" with her new environment, so she moved a lot last night, going up and down the cage, and also taking over Muffin's little cottage ;p But by the end of the night, they slept in it together. No squeaking, no fighting.

I think she's just a normal Syrian hamster. Her fur is not as long as Muffin's or Scotch's. But they're about the same size. Probably about the same age (I think). And they got along immediately.

Ginger almost has the same shade like Muffin's, except Muffin is banded with white fur on her back. Muffin has bigger, rounder eyes than Ginger. Ginger has small eyes, about the same size as Scotch's, except Scotch has red eyes, Ginger's are black.

Okay, so I just googled it up and I think she just about matched as a "Yellow Black Syrian Hamster". The description and picture matched quite a bit.

"Combination of black and yellow. The tips of the fur are black with the yellow undercolor showing through, black eyes, and grey ears"

At first I didn't want to get anymore hamsters, but then the nice couple had more than 50 hamsters *errkkk* And I knew I had to get just one. Of course I couldn't decide whether to get a female or a male. Then it clicked! I'll just get another female, because I don't want to risk my males fighting.

And at first, I wanted to get a gray one, 'coz Scotch and Muffin are both golden, cinnamon & brownish, and banded with white fur. But sadly the only gray female was small. She was really cute, but I don't think Scotch & Muffin would want a younger hamster in their cage. Especially not Muffin. But then, I saw her.

Well, actually it was a "he". But the nice couple took out all the similar color in a box and they helped separate the male from the female. When he picked up the first female, I immediately said, "that one".

I'm glad the three of them got along fine. Scotch was the most welcoming though. He couldn't stop sniffing her umm, "butt". Muffin and Ginger somewhat kissed *hmmm* They put their noses together. That's kissing, right?

So anyway, here's Muffin. Not as tiny as when I first got her.

She would sneak into my palm whenever she had the chance. I think she hates being in a cage. I know I do. But I can't just let her wander off in my room. I have no choice.

It's a good thing the cage comes with a "ball". If you recall the 3D Cartoon "Bolt". Yup, remember Rhino the Hamster? Yeah, that ball.

I put Muffin in the ball last night and let her wander off safely in my room. And when she stopped at a corner, curling up into a ball, I knew that she was exhausted, so I put her back into her cage with Ginger. Scotch is in a separate cage. Read my previous post to find out why. LOL!

And this morning, I was woken up with a scratching sound. I got up and looked at Scotch's cage, and this is what I saw.

Scotch was building a nest. Why? Is he lonely? =|

And isn't "building nests" a habit for a pregnant hamster?

Or is it normal? I sure hope it is!

But he couldn't be lonely! I read that Syrian Hamsters live alone, and they're happier when they're alone. But from what I've noticed, he seems to be feeling much miserable. His fur is always sticking up. Macam urang stress =_="

And I've made sure he could sleep inside the restaurant (the tower in the cage), but now he's building his own nest under the stairs. I hope he'll be okay. Muffin's okay since she has a room-mate now.

Or maybe the cage is too big for Scotch? I've put Scotch in the big cage, and Muffin & Ginger in the medium one. I'll switch them later and see how they'll respond to it.

Wellllllll . . .

Yesterday I mentioned that I would separate the hamsters. And I did. They're both in their individual cages. now Good thing I bought a few cages (I'm indecisive, so I have all sizes from small to big). I have three cages actually. I lend my fiance the small one, so I have the medium & big ones here with me. And I also bought TWO "homes" for them in their cages. I've read how hamsters love hiding. One looks like a cottage, and another also looks like a cottage except it has a tower where I can store food for them. And it has a sign which says "RESTAURANT".

So anyway, back to topic: I separated them this morning. So now I can't help feeling guilty =( becauseeee? Because they've always been together ever since I bought them from that nice dude. I've never separated them. They're always doing things together. Running on the ball together, sleeping together, eating together. They're practically twins . . . *sighh*

When I got home from work, Muffin still hasn't come out of the small cottage, and Scotch is still in the restaurant. And now that Scotch is out of hiding, the fur on his face are . . . sticking up =/ What is up with that? Is he stressed out because Muffin's not around? Is Muffin as stressed out as he is, too? She still won't come out of her cottage.

I hope this is normal. I don't wanna lose them both. But this separation is for their own good, right? Right. I hope I'm right.

hamsters doing "business"

Are my hamsters trying to have babies? Because I kinda walked-in on them when they were umm, well I don't have to say it here, but they were actually "in business" when I walked into my room earlier today.

Are they even ready to have babies? I'm going to separate them tomorrow. Yup, I AM!

I'm no expert when it comes to hamsters, but the internet helped a lot! I learned a few things though. But here's something that I read and experimented right away:

When a you stroke a female hamster on her back, and she just stayed there, flat on her belly with her tail sticking upright, umm she may be in "heat" which means she's ready to "do business".

And Muffin did! =/ errr~ and now she's all over Scotch, like readying herself to "do business". =/ ooooookaaayyy~

But if there's one thing I'm sure of, Scotch was definitely "doing business" with her earlier. Should I let them? Are they mature enough? *pffftt* Mature or not, I'm definitely separating them for a while. I'll do that first thing in the morning. I'm really tired right now, I need some shut-eye.

I hope they're not trying to HAVE babies. I don't mind, but I'm too busy with home renovation right now, and also concentrating on Shaggy's medications, not to mention "WORK". I can't handle everything right now or my migraine might come back.

shaggy's going private now

Hi, just thought I'd update everyone about Shaggy.

We brought Shaggy to the private vet in Gadong this morning. I have been taking him to the Government Vet in Terunjing since I got him. And well, as everyone know; he's been sick. His health progress is a bit slow. I expect him to fully recover since it's been almost a year now. All the Govt Vet does is give him shots once in every two weeks. They gave him tablets, but still slow.

And so I thought it would be best to decide to switch Shaggy to a private vet from now. It's called AniCare, situated in Gadong. I've been there years ago when my cat was dying. At that time, I didn't know a Govt Vet existed. When I found out there IS a Govt Vet, I brought all my cats there ever since.

How did I come to trust AniCare?

When I first got my Syrian hamsters, Scotch seemed to have urinated blood. I was worried, so I took him to the Govt Vet in Terunjing. But the Doctors didn't have the meds for him, so that was when I remembered AniCare in Gadong. They gave Scotch some antibiotics, and it worked wonders. Scotch is healthier now.

So what are the odds! I guess I should start taking Shaggy to Anicare for his meds. Yup, it would cost me but I don't care. Just as long as Shaggy is healthy!

AniCare gave Shaggy a bottle of medicated shampoo, daily tablets and ear drops for the mites. Thank you AniCare! We will see you again next month for Shaggy's next check-up =)

1st visit of the year

Well, it's been a while. Went for a visit on Friday, 8th January 2010. Sure enough, he's still the little rascal. LOL! And the brother is still the stay-put one, minding his own business while Orion goes exploring the room. Can't wait to take him home next month! Weee~

Shaggy grooming

First of all . . .

HAPPY NEW YEAR! HAPPY 2010!

Okay, back to topic:

We brought Shaggy for grooming yesterday (6th January 2010) at his usual place. My fiance dropped him off after work, around 6:00pm, and we picked him up at 10:00pm. *errrkkk* I think Shaggy's groomer was busy with something. I think they had to be somewhere that night, but she didn't hesitate to have Shaggy over. They're really nice people =)

Well, here he is; all fresh & clean. And if a lot of you are wondering: YES, he's showing progress. He's gained weight, took his meals, his vitamins, his treats. And definitely bigger now, almost like his old-self except with less fur. But hey, at least he's looking better, right! =)

Actually Shaggy's fur looks like a normal Domestic Short Hair (DSH).

But he has this round, almost flat-face, that he still looks totally adorable!

His face is almost flat that my Aunt (ngangah) calls him "si tupap". LOL!

Umm, but no Shaggy's not a flat-faced persian (I'm not really into flat-faced persians).

Shaggy's a golden Chinchilla.

Please help me pray for Shaggy to get better and better.

I really miss snuggling and cuddling with him.

Shaggy meets hamster

I brought Shaggy up in my room to introduce him to the hamsters. HEE~ I think he likes them, and he didn't bother much about them. Here are a few shots of him in my room. (Using my camera phone. Sorry, for the poor quality) ;p

All thanks to his official groomer who suggested to change his food from Smart Heart to Kis Kis.

It's quite cheap, but it did Shaggy some good. Healthier everyday!

I'm going to renovate my home soon, and I'm going to make a balcony for my cats.
A balcony with a roof and walls. Especially for Shaggy and company ;p

Orion the Rebel

Sunday, 27th Dec 2009 we went to visit Orion again. My fiance's sister & boyfriend came along.

My fiance didn't take much pictures. He wasn't feeling well that day. But during this visit, I learned something. The difference between Orion & the brother.

Orion is much much more carefree, and full of life, and also quite a rascal. LOL!

And his brother's quite the opposite; scared and clueless.

Maybe because the brother didn't earn any visits from the buyer AT ALL. I feel so sorry for him. He didn't get all the attention he needed, unlike Orion who receives a visit from me at least twice a week. The cats' maids told me that the owner only came ONCE. And that was only when he was booked. I truly feel sorry for him.

I've learned how LOVE affects you. Even on animals. I have showered Orion with love and attention, and he is so full of life; pouncing and running around. I hope the brother will get the same attention and love when he gets home to his owner. =)

Meet our Hamsters

We bought new hamsters! HEHE~ We bought friends for Pearl & Theodore. My fiance bought two more dwarf hamsters, and I bought myself two long-haired Syrian Hamsters =))))

The dwarf hamsters are all Campbell's Russian Dwarfs. And here they are! (These are the best we could do. You know how hamsters are; always in a hurry. They're fast animals).

Theodore & Pearl are both normal Russian Dwarfs.

Standard brown coat, a black dorsal stripe and black eyes.

Theodore is much bigger than Pearl.

Alvin & Eva are also Russian Dwarfs called "Argente".

Argentes have cinnamon colored coat, a darker dorsal stripe, and red eyes.

Alvin & Eva are about the same size.
It's hard to tell them apart unless you check their "thing".
But for me, Alvin has bigger ears than Eva.
And Eva has this red thing on one side of her ear.

Scotch's shade is lighter than Muffin.
It's easy to tell who's who.

It's sad to say we gave Raoul to my cousin. After all, my fiance didn't feel comfortable keeping her since my cousin was the first one to call dibs on her.

We actually bought a home for her, but she didn't make much use of it since, well . . . she sleeps most of the time. So here's Raoul inside the hamster-ball-thing HEHE

But well, to cheer him up, I bought him a pair of Dwarf Hamsters. He said he wanted to have hamsters that would ACTUALLY make use of the "treadmill". So, I guess Dwarf Hamsters would solve the problem. His sister named the female "Pearl", and the guy "Theodore", because "Theodore" sounds like "Tidur" LOL!

I haven't taken any pictures of the new dwarfs. I'll post them up once I do.

Hello,

There's nothing much to blog about. I have officially gave up the hamster to my fiance.And he's naming it "Raoul". Umm, we don't know if it's a girl or a boy, but he still insisted calling him "Raoul". LOL!

We went to survey a cage for Raoul earlier. Maybe we'll get one for him tomorrow. And sorry, no pictures yet. I'll take some tomorrow. And by the way, I heard him "meow" earlier. My fiance heard it too. Is that . . . natural . . . ? And he's sneezing, or was it a cough? I don't know. I'm a cat-person, not a hamster-person. HEE~

So that's it about Raoul.

And right this moment:

SHAGGY IS IN MY ROOM!

It's been a long time! I miss him so much! He seems to be feeling the way, 'coz he just can't stop brushing himself against my hands. Aaawwww~ I was gesturing the scratching pad, doing some demo for him, but he somehow brushed his face against my hands.

Well . . . when a cat does that to you, you can't exactly resist the urge to NOT stroke him and talk to him. And when I told him that I missed him, he turned to look up at me, telling me with his slitted eyes that he missed me too.

We had our moment earlier, and I just couldn't stop glancing over my shoulder, watching him, calling his name like I used to when he used to be up in my room the whole time.

And right now, he's gone for some food on his cat-tree. Earlier, he was lying down on the floor, next to my feet, just purring away, and being the good companion that he already is.

I hope he feels relieved to be here as much as I am to have him here. I just can't stay away. He's my best friend.

And sorry, no pictures. I'll try to snap some tomorrow. I don't wanna attack him with the camera flashes. Not on his first-day-since-forever in my room with me. I just want him to get comfortable. Especially with his newly-built cat-tree. I don't think he has any idea that it belongs to him. And he's definitely not familiar with the scratching pad.

Well, those things take time. I can't rush it, and I can't force him to get used to everything immediately. Patience.

Oh he's back. Now lying down at the end of the bed, his eyes closed. LOL! Lazy bum. He's sleepy when he's full. I gotta go now. I think he wants me to pet him.

mom's pet. a hamster?

Okay,

So mom brought home a hamster today. I have never had a hamster in years! I've had a hamster once, but I guess I'm such a cat-person. I don't know how to take care of the hamster so I gave it away.

And today, mom brought home a hamster. And it's in my room. I don't know if it's a boy or a girl =/ And it's curled up into a fur-ball as we speak. I gave him bread earlier. He seemed eager to munch on it. He keeps looking up at me with those small eyes. Umm, was that suppose to be cute? =/ errr, I don't know.

Well, I guess I'll try to get him some food tomorrow. I can't just ignore him. I should care for him. It's the least I could do. My mom? Nope. She brought him home, but told me to take care of it. *sighhh* But I did overhear her asking my cousin to keep it. We'll see.

But as for now, welcome to the family 'lil guy =)

I wonder if Shaggy would love to meet you! LOL! Well, I'm sure he would ;p HEHE

Oh, and BTW, we sent Shaggy out for grooming yesterday. We always send him to an apartment in Bandar for grooming. The lady is very nice, and is always concerned about her customers (and by customers, I meant "cats"). She's very nice that I don't mind taking him all the way to Bandar.

So anyway, Shaggy was in a really good mood yesterday. He always does whenever he went for grooming. Well, we know how it feels like to be pampered. Sooooo rejuvenating! HEE~ And after that, we just went everywhere with him. And he just waited patiently in the car, not even bothering to umm, bother us.

I'm looking forward to it again. It's fun to have Shaggy on board with us. He's such a good boy. He's MY good boy =)

Shaggy's Second Stroll --- or not!

We took Shaggy out of his cage for an afternoon stroll just now. Or at least that's how I wanted it to be. LOL! ;p I put him on a leash of course.

The first time I fastened the leash on his neck, he kept hissing and growling. Maybe he didn't like the idea of having a leash around his neck. He's not used to it, anyway. Shaggy has NEVER hissed and growled in his entire life. NEVER.

My fiance even joked that he didn't like the leash since it was in peach-color, and it had flowers on it ;p He said, maybe Shaggy was embarassed to have it tied up around him. You know, like a macho-destroyer bit. LOL!

So anyway, to make sure he doesn't hiss and growl at the leash, I tied it up in his cage, next to his favorite spot, assuming he would get to know the scent, and get used to it. And yess, it worked.

So we put him on a leash and waited for him to wander off around the backyard. Umm, his response was still negative. He's never been outside the house or his cage. EVER. I don't trust my neighbors to return him to me if they found him. So anyway, he kept running back into his cage. I didn't want to pressure him, so I let him.

Today, I decided to try it again, but nope. No luck at all. We actually carried him to the front of our house and as soon as his feet were on the ground, he tugged me to the back of the house towards his cage --- AGAIN.

I took him up in my arms and walked back to the front, he ran back to the backyard. Thank GOD I had him on leash.

My guess is, he's still not used to the environment. The only environment he's been in was INSIDE the house and his cage. He's such a scaredy-cat.

Did I mention that he fears umbrellas? Yeah, he does! But that's sooooo cute, riiiiighttt! LOL!

Oh well, best of luck next time! And next time, I'll make sure we take some shots of his curious, frightened face.

RAW FOOD for the 1st time

We fed Shaggy with RAW FOOD last night. I just read this interesting post on Cat Forum a couple of days ago. And they encourage RAW FOOD, at least 40%. The advantage is that your cat will poop less, and their poop would smell less as bad.

I took a slice of meat loaf (raw beef burger, to be exact. HEHE) from the fridge, and Shaggy literally licked them off my hands! He loved it so much. I couldn't just let him sniff around for more meat, so I gave him another slice. RAW.

He ate half of it from the plate, and kept glancing back and forth from me to the raw meat in front of him. I pinched a small cut and held it out in front of his face. And he happily munched on it --- from my hands!

Oh, how I love Shaggy so much! He is so naturally adorable.

Here he is. A picture from earlier this week. He's getting better now. Bigger than his old-self. And has fur like any DSL (Domestic Short Hair). I hope he'll be back in shape by the time his new brother comes home in February 2010 =)

I had a date with "The Kitty Lair", so I went to Faridah's again the next day. I didn't mind though since my house was just about a 2-minute ride (without traffic) or 5-minute ride (with crazy traffic).

When I came, he wasss . . . really quiet. He usually likes to move around his basket, round and round. nd we always had to turn the basket to make sure his face was facing to the camera. But today, he was acting ALL different.

He just sat there, looking all puzzled. But then again, his head slowly dozed off. He was sleepy. But of course there's one thing that haven't changed! That grumpy look on his face. And that laziness of his. LOL.

Train your cat to walk on a leash

Whether your cat is exclusively indoors, or an indoor-outdoor variety, there are times you'll need to keep him confined with a leash. Even older cats can be trained, given patience.

Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Varies

Tips:

Patience, patience, patience. Stay tune to your cat's reactions and let him guide you at his own pace. Don't let this training become a battle of the wills, because you will surely lose.
If you have more than one cat, it may actually be easier to train the second one, because she will want to follow the first.

What You Need:

Sturdy Harness
Lightweight leash

Here's How:

Purchase a comfortably-fitting harness and lightweight leash with a secure clip. Do not use a collar, as the cat may be able to slip out of it. You want the leash to pull from the chest rather than the throat. The cats' Walking Jacket is a fine alternative to a harness, virtually escape free, and with the leash attached mid-back, for comfort.

Put the harness and leash somewhere near kitty's sleeping area and leave it there for several days to accustom him to it's appearance and smell.

Wait until just before his normal mealtime, then put the harness on the cat. You should be able to comfortably slip two fingers between the harness and his skin.

Immediately feed him his favorite meal and praise him when he is finished.

Let him wear the harness for awhile. If it seems to bother him, distract him by playing with a favorite toy.

When your cats seems to be accustomed to the harness, take it off.

Repeat steps 3 through 6 for several days, leaving the harness on longer each time.

Next, attach the leash to the harness and let kitty walk around the house, dragging the leash. Watch him carefully that he doesn't get tangled up around furniture.

Praise him for being such a good cat, and give him some loving hugs.

Repeat steps 8 and 9 for a few days, until the cat seems to accept the harness and leash.

Now, let him walk around as usual, but pick up the business end of the leash and follow him in his wanderings. Keep the tension slack, so as not to restrict his movement.

Practice step 11 for a few days.

Teach kitty to follow you by talking to him in a cajoling manner and lightly pulling on the lead. Don't fight him. Leash-training should be a pleasurable experience for the cat, not an adversarial one. On the other hand, if he tugs at the leash, simply stop until he relaxes, then move on.

You're ready to move outdoors now. Do it gradually, and take your first short excursions in your own back yard, or in a quiet area.

Gradually increase his exposure to the sights, sounds and smells of the outdoors. Soon, the two of you will be able to enter walkathons together.

One gray morning I took the day off from work, knowing that today was the day it had to be done. Our dog, Rocky, had to be put to sleep. Sickness has ravaged his once-strong body, and despite every effort to heal our beloved boxer, his illness was intensifying.

I remember calling him into the car . . . how he loved car rides! But he seemed to sense that this time was going to be different. I drove around for hours, looking for any errand or excuse not to go to the vet's office, but I could no longer put off the inevitable. As I wrote the check to the vet for Rocky to be "put down", my eyes welled up with tears and stained the check so it was almost unreadable.

We had gotten Rocky four years earlier, just before my first son, Robert, was born. We all loved him dearly, especially little Robert.

My heart ached as I drove home. I already missed Rocky. Robert greeted me as I got out of the car. When he asked me where our dog was, I explained that Rocky was in heaven now. I told him Rocky had been so sick, but now he would be happy and be able to run and play all the time.

My little four-year-old paused, then looking at me with his clear blue eyes and an innocent smile on his face, he pointed to the sky and said, "He's up there, right, Dad?"

I managed to nod yes, and walked into the house. My wife took one look at my face and started weeping softly to herself. Then she asked me where Robert was, and I went back out to the yard to find him.

In the yard, Robert was running back and forth, tossing a large stick into the air, waiting for it to return to the ground, and then picking it up again and throwing it higher and higher each time. When I asked what he was doing, he simply turned and smiled.

"I'm playing with Rocky, Dad . . ."

kitten attack

I just got bitten by a kitten. YES. A small, kitten. BUT a very wild one.

He left at least 15 tooth-marks on my finger. My index-finger. I'll try to get a picture of my finger later.

The inside story:

There's this black & white kitten, always hanging around Shaggy's & Brownie's cage. AND ALWAYS taking their food, and suka menjurit longkang. Sampai crowded with ants. So we call him "Si Penyamun". I mean, he's always wasting the food, by dropping it to the ground, littering the place. Kadang-kadang sampai Shaggy & Brownie marah sebab abis makanan durang.

And soooo, tadi before work I went to the backyard to check up on my darling cats. Just to see if they needed fresh water. And to my surprise "Si Penyamun" was lying there next to Brownie's cage. And he didn't even move. But he did hiss at me.

Sekaliiiiii............ I tried to catch him with my bare hands, aiming for the back of his neck ('coz that's the safest place to pick a kitten up). But when I was about to reach him, he took a sprint and I only managed to grab his hind legs.

As he was struggling, he turned to face me anddd............

HE BIT ME.

And not just bit, as in BIT. He was having my finger for lunch! Shaggy & Brownie pun ikut tia jua meliat aku kena attack ahh! Penyibuk jua tuu. HEHE~ tapi cute wah durang ah. Inda jua ku jadi marah tu. HEE~

And at that moment I swear I'll get that little kitten and drop him off somewhere else. Somewhere far away from home.

How To Toilet-Train Your Cat

REMINDER:

Never use any form of physical punishment such as hitting or swatting. Physical punishment will not train your cat to stop doing whatever it is doing; it will only train your cat to be afraid of you.

How to toilet train a cat (do it yourself):

Toilet training your cat depends entirely on the cat's personality. Toilet training sociable cats that love being praised make the training task much easier. You might want to adapt the toilet training technique described below to fit your cat's personality. Training your cat to use the toilet can take anything between 2 weeks up to 3 months, depending on the individual cat's personality.

Beware - cat toilet training takes a lot of patience!

Cat toilet training steps:

Start by gradually moving your cat's litter box nearer to the toilet until finally it should be next to the toilet. Ensure that your cat is always comfortable and sure of its litter box's location.

Now start elevating the cat's litter box. Put something non-slippery like newspapers or cardboard underneath the litter box. A normal rate to increase the height of the litter box would be about 5cm a day, but be very attentive to signs that your cat is not comfortable with the current height, and adjust the pace of raising the litter box accordingly. The cat litter box should be raised until it is at a level height with the toilet bowl. Throughout this process it is very important to keep the toilet lid open and the seat down, because your cat will get used to it and might even start climbing on the toilet seat in order to reach its litter box.

Move the litter box to rest on the open toilet seat. Keep it there until your cat seems comfortable with this arrangement.

Buy a metal bowl or tray that will fit snugly inside the toilet bowl. It would be advisable for the metal bowl to have small draining holes. Fill the bowl with cat litter (preferably the flushable type).

Now remove your cat's litter box entirely. If you have reached this step successfully you are very close to having a toilet trained cat

While your cat is using the metal bowl inside the toilet, be attentive to where its paws are. The goal is teaching him to squat with all four paws on the toilet seat rim. You can move the cat while it is using the toilet and praise it (or reward it) when it is sitting in the correct position. Normally the cat will first sit entirely inside the metal bowl, then with front paws on the toilet seat, and finally it should sit with all four paws on the toilet.

Start using less and less cat litter. This can get smelly, so be sure to clean the bowl after every time your cat uses it. Cats scratch in sand or cat litter to cover up the smell (this is out of instinct), so if the bowl becomes too smelly your cat won't be comfortable using it (and you probably wouldn't be comfortable with using your toilet either). Using flushable cat litter makes cleaning the bowl very easy - just throw out the contents in the toilet and flush down, rinse out the bowl, refill with correct amount of cat litter and replace. A handy tip is to place newspaper on the floor around the toilet to help keep the room clean should your cat scratch in the cat litter. Decrease the amount of cat litter in a pace that your cat feels comfortable with.

When you basically don't use any cat litter inside the bowl anymore, start by gradually filling the bowl with water. The water will also help mask the smell so your cat will be more comfortable using the toilet. Be attentive to your cat's behavior through this whole process - if your cat stops using the bowl inside the toilet, you may be moving on too fast and might need to go back a couple of steps.

When the water level in the bowl has reached about 4cm and your cat has no problem using it, it is time to remove the bowl entirely. Your cat should now be toilet trained. Remember to always leave the toilet seat up and flush regularly.

The disadvantages in toilet training your cat:

Not everyone agrees that cat toilet training is such a great idea. They argue that it is unnatural for a cat to use a toilet, as it goes against their natural instincts to cover up their smell. Toilet seats can also be slippery and there might be the risk of your cat injuring itself. Even if your cat doesn't fall in at all, he may become anxious whenever he uses the toilet and going to the toilet can become an unpleasant task.

A litter box also has the health benefit in that it's easier to monitor your cat's urine for signs of infections or sickness.

Moving locations will also be harder for the cat, because a litter box can be moved easily but the cat will first need to get used to using the new toilet. With some cats this is no problem and they can become comfortable with the new toilet very fast, while other cats might be less adaptable.

Dear dear,

I just got home! Tadi ada this small gathering at my aunt's place, Makan-Makan for our late-grand-mama. The weather had been frickin' HUMID all week; be it day or night. Macam dalam microwave KALIII rasanyaa!! I am totally baked, sweating like I had run a marathon across the desert. *sighh*

And YES. Of course; COONS. I'm going to visit Faridah's again tomorrow. All I have to do is book the newborns and this paranoia will leave me alone. As simple as that. and for that I have to make sure that I get there before anyone else does. Seriously. I was running my own marathon, checking up on Yuko (the pregnant cat) whenever possible.

Apparently, a friend told me that including me, there are SIX (yup! 6, VI, etc) people waiting for the new litter. And all of them were expecting to get a MALE COON. And I was like,

WHHHAAAAAAATTTTT???

I must be quick. I must! I have to be! For the sake of embracing my very own FIRST MAINE COON.

So anyway, I gotta go now.

Hi again,

I just got back home. I didn't make it to Faridah's. The gate was already closed when I went there. I went to Shaggy's parents earlier. All the kittens were gone.

ALL GONE. ALL ELEVEN OF 'EM. *coughs*

Oh well, looks like I'll just have to wait for the baby coons. Which would probably be soon. It's November already!

Casper is missing

I HDR-ed a picture of Casper, taken by my other half; Hunter53. He's also been missing from home. Maybe he can't find his way back home. It's been almost two weeks. I'm in solemn, sad that he's not back home.

Shaggy's looking for him, too. Sometimes I feel like Shaggy's lecturing me whenever I'm cleaning his cage (which is everyday!). As if saying, "Mana Casper? Napa Casper blum balik????"

I've been going crazy with my 50mm f/1.4 *hey hey* And I'm sure by now everyone knows my favourite Practice Target. Yup yup! Shaggy of course! He's very photo-genic (of course!), camera-friendly & natural...~ He just does what he wants. You can't tell him how to pose or do what! Frustrating, but it's okayy... There's originality =)

Waahh, garang jua muka Shaggy atuu.. If jadi teacher, semua student takut *haha*

I wish I could hold Casper like before. He's the cuddly-type, unlike Shaggy. Casper used to sleep with me in my room--and he used to always wake me up at exactly 6:30 in the morning! *hmpff* Nevertheless, he was such a companion. But nowadays, he's so used to being inside his cage, that he keeps meow-ing whenever he's in my room. And I can't get any sleep with all his "meows"! I really miss Casper =(

*hehe* and I especially miss watching him sleep like a person! =p

Shaggy, my youngest Baby (OR NOT!)

Hello everyone.
So I'm back to write about the youngest cat in the house (at the moment). Let's give a big hand to SHAGGY!

"Yeaa, bay-beyy~"

Shaggy is my very first persian cat, and by "persian" I meant long, bushy fur. And he's also the first cat that I actually BOUGHT! *omg* So with that I took extra extra care for him, and concern about him as well! I bought him for BND350 which is in fact quite reasonable. The ads I saw in BruDirect where people were selling their cats are very pricey! So I guess, Shaggy's OK.

He's about 4-5 months old now. I bought him on 19th March 2008 from one of my friend's aunts in Mentiri. I am sooo satisfied with Shaggy. What more could I be asking for?

He's playful, obedient, an attention seeker (awww~), silly (because he ran into my bed post & bumped his head a few times), sleepy (aren't all cats?), lazy (he must've gotten this habit from Casper), and he snores! *yikes*

I'm not making this up, 'coz he really did! I posted his video on YouTube, and he was snoring. I'm not sure whether to call it adorable or horrible, but that's just the way he is.

Here is Lil` Shaggy, a few days after he arrived to his new home.

But as he grows, he couldn't fit inside the basket anymore,

Pewee, my baby

My third cat is a lady. I got her some two months after I took Casper in. I figured that Casper was lonely so I looked for another cat to accompany him. She was a great companion. The way I see it, they were almost like brothers & sisters. They go everywhere together & came home together. --- OK, why did it sound like they were dating? *thinx*

Ok forget about that. Pewee died this year, 27th February 2008. She was gang-raped by other stray cats (I knew because I saw it happen before I shooshed the stray cats away). And so she got pregnant. For some reason I was a little excited to have "grand-kittens" (?). But a part of me was worried because she was still too young to BE pregnant.

And so when she was almost exactly one-month of pregnancy, her anus started to bleed--heavily! I was in total panic! The government vet was closed that day. But I did go and some-what begged the security to help call the doctor, but none of the doctors were in at that time 'coz they had a seminar or bla-bla-bla~~

And so I rushed to the nearest Private Vet. Seeing that I didn't have any money at that time, the kind Doctor offered her help, and told me to leave Pewee at her clinic so that she could watch over her should she seems weaker & weaker. I agreed and left.

But then, at almost midnight, the Doctor called me up and asked me to take Pewee home. She said that Pewee was in a very critical state & that she needed to be operated at once. I asked how much she was asking, and she told me that it would cost BND300 at the most. Oh what the fffuuurrr~! *tuttt*

I had no other choice but to take her home with me. I let Pewee sleep inside the house, afraid that she mightget cold outside. So the next day, I sent Pewee to my cousin's house because she had volunteered to take Pewee to the Government Vet. I couldn't take her myself because I had to work & because the fact that the danngggg Government Vet would open at 1:45pm on Wednesdays!

It was exactly 12:30 midday when I sent Pewee to my cousin's house. And I still remember saying to Pewee, "Please hold on for two more hours." And faithful as she had always been to me in her life, she struggled to stay alive for exactly two hours. My cousin called me up at exactly 2:30pm and announced that Pewee couldn't make it.

The babies died in her womb which made her tummy grow bigger and bigger & it became poison in her body:

My Darling Cats: Oreo & Casper ~rreoww~

It's about time I introduce my precious darlings. In my life, I have had four (4) cats that I have actually nursed to their adult life. And most of then were male and just ONE female. I don't have any pictures of my very first cat (Oreo). But I will tell you a little bit about him.

His name was Oreo. I got him (or should I say given to me) way back in 2002, and he was a black cat. But not entirely black-black. He has a small, diamond-shaped white fur in the middle of his neck, and bra-shaped white fur on his chest, and a triangle (almost looked like an underwear) on his tummy. I'd say he's a civilised cat. *lol* Anyways, he grew up to be one FAT cat. He's not around anymore 'cause I took him to my cousin's place so that he could "mate", but then he ran away.

Funny thing is that he DID came back to MY HOUSE (wow), but then my father shooshed him away and he never came back---for good! But you know what, there's a black cat which looks just like Oreo around my neighbourhood & I can't deny that he COULD be Oreo. Who knows, right? *sighhh*

Then it's been a very very very long time since I had a cat. So last year (27th July 2007), my cousin was about to throw out this cute little siamese cat, but thank god I was there to the rescue!

*heroic music in the background* Yea, ~supperrmannn~ --- oh wait! *music skidded & stopped* I'm not a MAN!

As I was saying, I took him in and named him Casper. I don't know why I named him Casper. *sighh* Maybe it was his blue eyes. He's really cute, his face is sooo.... Here just look at him!

Yup, well he's not that small anymore. I lost most of his "young pictures" because I had to reformat my damn laptop! %@#$%#%! *inhales deeply*

So, he's cute or what? I mean, all cats are -- except the SPHYNX CATS! *yuck*

They're hairless. Yup, I repeat: HAIRLESS or FUR-LESS...? The only species of cats that are hairless. Not even a strand of fur. Nope. Not one. Pure skin! Leather cat =p

OKAY!!! So let's get back to Casper. The laziest cat in my life! Just look at him! That lazy cat. He sleeps everywhere. And I mean everywhere! *sighhhhsss!*

He sleeps in the car (the dashboard), on my dresser, on my desk -- when I was working on my laptop, and he sleeps in his bed & also my bed! He has no sense of place. Pheww~!

He's on my bed, and *hehe* what a striking pose! =p~

And he doesn't care if it was the smallest place in the world! Yup, that's my Casper.
No matter how, I love him to bits! *winx*

I went on a road-trip yesterday. It was a few hours drive. Just the four of us, me and my dear cousins. When I got home that day, I went to check up on my cats.

How sweet of them, greeting me "meow"-ing away. Or are they mad at me because I had been gone the whole day? The little one stretched its front paws out of his cage, as if telling me to pick him up. And so I did.

He purred and closed his eyes. Isn't it a bless to have a cat? They are always there for you whenever you need company.
